How do I know when I have done enough?

When can we rest from our labors?

No matter what guru you listen to, the question invariably comes up: "How do I know when I have done enough to bring my dream about?"

This is a difficult and yet important question for anyone who has realized and/or is working on creating their best life. How do you know?

The simple, and most honest, answer I can give you is that only you will know that. I know that sounds unhelpful, but it's true. Let me try and explain using Neville's teachings. If you have studied any Neville at all, you know that the bible is not fact, but allegory. It teaches us, in symbols, how to create the best life for us.

In the bible, they tell us we must labor for six days and rest upon the seventh. Now, that does not mean we have to haul ass for 6 sets of 24 hours and then collapse for the next 24. Remember, we are being taught in symbols. "6 days" could be six hours or thirteen days or 24 months or even 7.2 seconds... It isn't based 'in human time'. No, we are talking about how long does it take for you to impress upon your subconscious, upon the I AM within you, that you have attained your dream? Those metaphorical 6 days count for the time between when you decide "I want this" and know mentally, emotionally, and even I AM'ly that "It is done. It is finished."

THAT is the point where you know you have done enough to bring your dream about. But it doesn't just come from saying the words "It is done. It is finished." Those are just an english translation of the pure knowledge within you that you have done all you can and now the universe/god/subconscious/power-that-is will make it into physical fact.

Which brings us to the sabbath. What is it? Well, it isn't a 24-hour span of time where you go to a building and follow someone else's rules. No, this is a time where you can mentally rest. Just continue to bask in that feeling of knowing that dream is here, of knowing you are in it, that it has come true. Relax, no need to stress.

I tried to come up with a nice symbol for the sabbath but everything I came up with didn't work. Just know that this is the time between when you KNOW and can relax, thus allowing the universe to do its thing, and the time when your dream comes into your physical sphere.

And I know you are sitting there thinking "But how will I know?" Because I've been there too. The smaller things just seem to happen, but with the big goals... those are the ones we really need guidance on.

Neville had an experience that he discussed in Rearranging the Mind where he was told his was 'done'. In fact, in that story, we also know that his sabbath was nine days. We don't know exactly how long his 6-days of labor was, though we know it was between 1-12 weeks. But we do know it took 9 days of mental rest where Neville just knew his dream of being out of the army and home with his wife and child was done until finally he was honorably discharged.

Another little positive note? Neville says nothing can be imagined which does not already exist. Thus - dream away until you KNOW.

"It is done. It is finished."
